![]() from San Antonio) I connected the single RCA from the preamp to a Monster Cable Y-Adapter and plugged the Y into both pre-inputs on the subwoofer. ![]() This immediately reduced the boominess even more and produced a much more seamless transition from the mains to the sub on very low frequency extensions.Īfter reading a review on this site (hats off to Michael D. I should mention that my preamp (a B&K Reference 30) includes a subwoofer setting ("Ultra") that sends sub-bass to both the mains and the subwoofer, which helps a great deal to integrate the low frequencies.Īfter reading a section on loudspeaker placement in a book called "The Complete Guide to High-End Audio" (an excellent book, BTW), I ran an RCA cable under the carpet and moved the subwoofer out into the center of the room as close as possible to the nominal listening position (3 ft). Changing the crossover point to 40 Hz reduced some of the boominess, but did not tighten up the sound or blend the subwoofer with the mains any better. Unfortunately, this resulted in a "loose" sound that lacked impact, yet was overly boomy and did not integrate with the sound of the mains at all. When I first set up the LW-15, I used the single subwoofer input on the back, set the crossover frequency at 80 Hz (the THX standard value) and placed the unit in a corner of my living room. Also, Cerwin-Vega is known for reproducing bass with authority and I've been pleased with my LS-12's (which I use for main speakers). I picked up the LW-15 because I had an opportunity to save $200 on the list price during a clearance. Should I consider putting some inside? If so, how much and whats the technique.Īny comments or advice on feeling more air pressure on the chest and maximizing performance would be helpful. Lastly, there is no insulation inside the enclosure. Should I be concerned with that?Ĭan I get tighter bass by plugging one or both ports and calibrating? Would that help. I will be putting speakers on the wall (LCR) and I know that the air coming out of those rear ports will make the wall vibrate and then vibrate the speakers. I don't think it is moving much air because I don't feel much on my chest when shotguns and explosions go off in movies. ![]() My room is 12' x 14' where the subwoofer is place in the corner 12 ft across where I am sitting, off to the right of the right speaker. It shakes my place like crazy but I'm not too sure if this is the true subwoofer performance or is it just distortion and/or bad placement. Anyone here ever used one or other Cerwin Vega subwoofer? I used it a little but wanted to get your guys thoughts on it. It has a 15" driver and two ports on the back. ![]()
